Restoring Dignity: Memorial Plaque at Zavala

From the time of his death until today — his family, mother, sisters, his wife, and the two of us, his daughters — have been searching for his grave so we could place a monument, eternal rest and a word beside his name, as is always deserved by every man who was born human. Thank you, Montenegro, for restoring the dignity of a man to my father with this memorial plaque, said Dr. Zoja Jovanović. My father, a professional soldier, left behind no estate — only his reputation, a book on military science, military sketches of the famous Seven Offensives. This modest plaque bearing his name holds, for me and my family, greater value than the highest Yugoslav war decorations he received during the war, and greater still than the Russian Order of Suvorov and the Order of Kutuzov.

As the daughter of General Arso Jovanović, I have the right to say publicly that my father’s remains should no longer lie in a ditch, and that today it is necessary to fear those people who do not fear sin themselves.

Zoja Jovanović, daughter of General Arso, speaks and thanks those present for restoring her father’s place in history.
