Description
Chronicle of Another Battle Won is an unyielding record of the Albanian people’s triumph over the devastating natural disaster in April 1979, an earthquake in the Northern regions, under the leadership of the Party of Labour of Albania (PLA). This booklet serves as testament to what can be accomplished through the people’s state power and Party-people unity. In a matter of months, the Albanian people rebuilt their homes, schools and vital infrastructure — all without a single call for aid from the imperialist world. This was possible because Albania was not merely rebuilding structures; it was building the future — a future based on self-reliance and self-sufficiency, socialist attitudes towards work and unshakable unity. When the earthquake struck, the response was immediate. Soldiers, workers, youth and peasants joined to confront the destruction. Their swift mobilization, led by Comrade Enver Hoxha and the Central Committee, left no room for despair. Instead, they marched forward, driven by social love for the socialist Homeland and the unwavering determination to overcome the disaster.
Unlike in the capitalist countries, where natural disasters are opportunities for profit and exploitation, Albania provides a different example. Here, there were no families left homeless, no cries for help left unanswered — not even for a single day. This collective effort demonstrates the vast possibilities in the new society: an entire people working together, undeterred by profit-making or selfish motives, defying all the odds through heroism and devotion to reconstruct what was destroyed. “Chronicle of Another Battle Won,” therefore, recognizes that only through the new society can the people stand firm against any natural hardship, and eliminate all social hardship. This chronicle is a statement that socialism is not simply an future ideal or a morally positive aspiration; it is a practical problem to be taken up for solution, in the interests of the vast majority of people.
