Description
Imperialism and the Revolution is Enver Hoxha’s most important theoretical work and one of the most important books in understanding the modern communism movement. In it, he puts forward his exposition of the “reactionary” essence of imperialism in our time — the epoch of imperialism and the proletarian revolution, as defined by Lenin. In a single thread, many forces are captured: American imperialism and Soviet social-imperialism, which he defines as the two main “bourgeois-revisionist” superpowers, Chinese, Yugoslav and Eurocommunist revisionism. This perspective stems the author’s leadership of the sole country worldwide blockaded by both then-superpowers, and all three if one is to include China. But perhaps the most important and famous aspect of this theoretical work is his view of the “revisionist” and “opportunist” role of China, spanning from the time of the World Anti-Fascist War, New Democracy, the Great Leap Forward, the “Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution”, the rapprochement with and defence of America, and finally the takeover of power by the Hua-Deng clique. In this regard, he clearly and openly labels Mao Zedong and his successors as another “revisionist” trend. For this edition, new footnotes have been prepared leading to Enver Hoxha’s works, further explaining his positions and the positions which the Party of Labour of Albania had held towards the Communist Party of China, as well as footnotes leading to further evidence on certain topics.
In describing Enver Hoxha’s main works, Imperialism and the Revolution among them, Ramiz Alia noted in his book Our Enver: “These works constitute a great theoretical heritage, both for the Albanian people and communists in their struggle for the cause of socialist construction and for the proletarians everywhere in the world to carry forward the cause of revolution and communism.”
