Description

Israel: Mercenary of Imperialism by the Albanian journalist Ymer Minxhozi traces the historical origins of Zionism, through to the British Mandate of Palestine, the establishment of the state of Israel and the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians and all the Arab peoples. Since its inception, Zionism has been defined by a mutually beneficial alliance between the various imperialist Great Powers, on the one hand, and the upper Jewish bourgeoisie, on the other — with the latter a mercenary for the former. It was for this reason that Zionism began, before deciding on the “chosen land” of Palestine to colonize and occupy, as a disruption in the international workers’ movement to split the unity of all peoples of Europe against the imperialists, and as a disruption for the Jewish workers in particular. It was also for this reason that the Zionists, at the time of the Great October Socialist Revolution, played a major role in the attempt to crush the Bolshevik revolution.

With the dawn of the First World War and the Ottoman Empire’s status as a Central European power, Great Britain turned its eye to new methods to penetrate into the Arab territories and take them under British spheres of influence. Zionism was the perfect mechanism by which to do this, through the Balfour Declaration and the British support for mass Jewish emigration to Palestine under the British Mandate. With British colonial rule waning after the Second World War, Zionism found its new mutually beneficial alliance in the United States, which would allow them to establish their state and commit the most brutal atrocities such as the 1948 massacres and expulsions. Despite the Jews being a minority people, Israel was given the majority of Palestine by the UN, despite the demand of some powers for a single-state federation. Moreover, Palestine was carved into two territories connected only by Israel. But this situation, the representatives of Israel have said, is only temporary. Theodor Herzl, the founder of Zionism, earlier proclaimed this “land of Israel” to be from the Nile to the Euphrates. In 1950, David Ben-Gurion repeated this demand. It is on this basis that not only Palestine, but also Lebanon, Syria, Egypt and all Arab nations are threatened. The new Israeli empire looms large even today, and defeating this chauvinist scheme for “living space” requires the unity of the brave and heroic Arab peoples.
