On Cooperation

Description

In one of his last works, On Cooperation, V.I. Lenin gives key political directions to the Bolshevik Party for continuing further success. The main topic touched on is, logically, cooperatives and their character. Under capitalism, they are capitalist enterprises, contrary to the petty-bourgeois assertion that they are socialist. Under socialism, they can be socialist enterprises and were the key to constructing socialism in the countryside, a possibility that Lenin said, in this work, was up for solution. It also touches upon the fact that a system under which the working class as a whole owns the means of production and land. The second point is culture; Lenin says that a real cultural revolution was necessary for the USSR because of the backward technical, educational and scientific background which the Tsarist feudal-imperialism left Russia. This is the key to setting up the cooperatives on a socialist basis.
