Description
In this speech, Comrade Enver Hoxha posits the new revolutionary road of the youth versus the old road of degeneration of the youth in the capitalist countries, it expounds the Marxist-Leninist view on all the events of May ’68. He begins by talking about the great and lofty path which the youth adhere to in socialist Albania, where they have a free life, not for personal satisfaction, but for the improvement of the socialist society, for the homeland. The comradery they build in their collectivist spirit is one which builds up the most outstanding Albanian achievements, the greatest projects, both mental and physical; either the study of science and Marxism-Leninism or the outstanding construction of the Rrogozhina-Fier, Tirana-Durrës and Durrës-Elbasan railways. Whereas in the capitalist countries, the youth live an individualist life crushed by obstacles in their path towards a new society; they face all sorts of oppression and exploitation, having to live a life in a society full of unemployment, poverty, etc., facing the ever-increasing danger of having to be sent off in an imperialist war. The youth, in capitalism, have to get into university, pass all the exams and then hope to find a job to even have a chance at the “personal satisfaction” desired by so many. In May ’68, while not led by any communist party, the youth (and specifically, the students) spontaneously stood up against these evils, against the capitalist system. This proves, Comrade Enver Hoxha says, that the betrayal of the revisionists was not immortal; the new Marxist-Leninist forces must build themselves up and become leaders among the youths, for this spontaneous expression was the expression of early, unguided struggles. Overall, this work is the most comprehensive and important work of Comrade Enver Hoxha on the question of the youth, still relevant to this day in our struggles.
